Carnelian is a warm-toned gemstone known for its range of oranges and reds, sometimes appearing translucent and other times more opaque. It has a Mohs hardness of about 6.5–7 — meaning it’s strong enough for everyday wear and resists most light scratches. Natural variations in depth of color, clarity, and internal markings develop as the stone forms, so each bead shows its own mix of tones. Those differences give every carnelian piece a distinct, individual look.
